Human Values are those spiritual unattained definitions; Happiness is one of them. It is not that I do not know what Happiness is; it is that it is too difficult to personalize it, or confine it to a personal level.
From my point of view, and as a general standard, Happiness is a level at which your wants, needs, and desires come closer to the facts of real life, making both sides equal. When this equilibrium is attained then your temporary phase of happiness arrives. “Temporary” I say because all good things come to an end.
Every person has his/her own way of achieving happiness, and since no one can really see the innateness of people, that makes it impossible to perceive or capture every way of thinking. Yet, and if I were allowed to do so, I will tell you about some people I know, and how they see happiness.
When an average person seeks happiness, most often they search in the wrong place: “If only I could have that I would be happy.” For ages, man has been seeking happiness from outside, not within. People have the misconception that material things and materialistic goals will bring them ultimate happiness, but in truth those only bring transient happiness. This, to be honest is the transcendental point of view.
Plato’s philosophy revolves around the attainment of eternal knowledge and achieving a metaphysical balance, this done, you have achieved happiness.
People differ in feeling happy, some feel happy when they eat Chocolate, some do when they laugh at there loudest voice, some when getting the supreme amount of cash. Some feel happy when they do not say a word, when they look the stars, when touching a beloved’s hand. Some feel the ultimate happiness when they cry, when they are sad, and finally, and rarely you see those category, they attain Happiness when they feel safety, trust, and Freedom.
People fill their lives with things that please them to ease the gloom that comes as a result of the seemingly never-ending trials and tribulations of life. We gladly accept any amount of pleasure we can extract from the monotony of our daily lives, and we will do almost anything to achieve happiness.
In moving into the other side of the ship, I was wondering, do people who live in more developed countries find more happiness than those in lesser developed countries? I just had to go into some researches to find out that this Human Value gathers these two-opposite sides of industrialization and democratization scale into an equal result…they are equally happy.
Speaking for myself, I find that the ultimate state of illusion is the point when you think yourself happy.
In our never-ending quest for happiness in our life, is some of the joy taken away? Have our thoughts for what we always want turned astray? Why has the quest for happiness left us more vulnerable and sad? Are we a society of melancholy people that are all looking for happiness and disappointed with what we find? Leaving us in a state of depression and unstableness. Turning us into not only a society of dismal people, but people that are left spiritless and melancholic?
Finally, for those who feel happiness in freedom, I would say that there is no such thing as liberty. You only change one sort of domination into another. All we can do is to choose our master.
A.S.
